Christopher Bates Jr., age 36, of Greenwich, was arrested on a federal complaint charging him with child pornography offenses on Tuesday, Dec. 13, according to Vanessa Roberts Avery, United States attorney for the District of Connecticut.
Investigators found that an IP address at Bates' home was being used to access the dark web to view images that depicted the sexual abuse of children, Roberts Avery reported.
Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents interviewed Bates on Wednesday, Nov. 30, and Bates agreed to a search of his electronic devices, the US Attorney's Office said.
Investigators found about 1,000 of the images in a forensic preview of one of his laptops, and a full forensic examination of his electronic devices is ongoing, the report said.
The US Attorney's Office said Bates is charged with receipt of child pornography and possession of child pornography.
Bates was released on a $300,000 bond under electric monitoring, according to the report.
The Greenwich Police Department assisted HSI with the investigation.
